The 10-hour-long procedure was undertaken on the young child to have the Cochlear implantation on both sides with the new advanced model of Cochlear Nucleus implant, CI632. The child will receive state of the art Kanso 2 sound processor. The switch-on will be done next month. The child visited the hospital for 2 consultations in the month of October, for history and clinical examination, hearing evaluation and counseling for surgery. Cochlear Implantation is a high-end long procedure conducted for patients with deafness. The cochlear implant is a small device that converts sound to electric signals to stimulate the Cochlear nerve and enable hearing. 66 year old female came with complaints of right sided tinnitus high pitch and gradual loss of hearing for 3 years. No other ENT complaints. Dr. Sampath Chandra Prasad Rao and Team Bangalore Skull Base Institute and Bangalore Cochlear Implant Institute successfully performed Asia Pacific's first Osia Implant in a Skull Base Surgery for massive Petrous Bone Epidermoid. The tumour was completely excised via a Transcochlear Subtotal Petrosectomy. This was combined with facial plastic work by Dr Vishwas K V that included upper lid implant, lateral canthopexy and facial microfat grafting. After the combined procedure, an Osia Implant was placed on the ipsilateral side to restore hearing.

An 80-year-old male patient was initially diagnosed with right side skull base osteomyelitis with lower cranial nerve palsies and was on IV antibiotics for over 6 months. Patient was evaluated and underwent subtotal-petrosectomy with BAHA implantation in June 2022. Post procedure it was revealed to be fungal skull base osteomyelitis and was treated with antifungals. Patient was recovering well, when he developed symptoms in the left ear and was diagnosed with skull base osteomyelitis of the left side 3 months later. Patient underwent subtotal petrosectomy on the left side and was treated with antifungals post procedure. He has been disease free for 1 year. Patient wanted hearing restoration and chose to undergo simultaneous bilateral cochlear implantation.
